PACIFIC EXPO | NÉNÉ

Up next at Pacific Expo: NÉNÉ (31), a multidisciplinary artist based in Rotterdam. Her work blends painting, installation, and spatial research, drawing inspiration from Afrofuturism – a movement that pushes beyond colonial frameworks and opens space for personal, imaginative expressions of identity.
Her painting series Alienation is a deeply personal reflection on her bicultural background. Through her art, NÉNÉ explores the feeling of living between two worlds. The sense of not fully belonging. Of being an ‘alien’ in your own environment.
During her travels through Africa – especially a two-month stay in Tanzania – she forged a stronger connection to her African heritage. Alienation feels like the result of a layered journey: one that led to more clarity, self-awareness, and a bold embrace of her complex identity.
What inner journey are you on? And which piece speaks to your search?
On view throughout August and September.
